What is Reiki – Rei means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki is “life force energy”.
A treatment can be directed to specific areas that need healing and can bring radiance, relaxation and feelings of peace, creating a greater sense of balance. Reiki can also work in conjunction with other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. It works on our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well being.
In a Reiki treatment a person will be lying down with their eyes closed, or open if they prefer. The practitioner will be laying hands on the persons body or working in the energy field around them.
Reiki is a Japanese technique developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui used for relaxtion and stress reduction that also promotes healing. It is a hands on healing and although Usui developed reiki as a practice you will find that hands on healing is very universal. In many scriptures you will find the words “the laying on of hands” and this tradition can be found in many cultures and spiritual paths dating back thousands of years. Futher the philosphy behind the healing touch stems from science.

The energy that Reiki practitioners works with is the same energy that flows through every living thing on the planet so it can also benefits animals, water and plants. Taoists believe that from birth to death we leak our life energy hence why we age. Yoga and Tia chi also help to maintain our life energy as well as eating and living a healthy life.
